Biosketch


Ezemenari M. Obasi is an Assistant Professor in the Counseling Psychology program, and cross-appointed in the Brain & Cognitive Science program. He received a B.S. in Physics at the University of California-Irvine, received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology at The Ohio State University, and completed his pre-doctoral internship at Harvard Medical School: McLean Hospital . His clinical experiences have included a college counseling center, VA medical center, maximum security prison, and psychiatric hospital. Dr. Obasi's research interests broadly include cross-cultural psychology (with an emphasis on African psychology), substance abuse, health disparities, and psychological assessment. He is constructing an experimental laboratory that takes advantage of modern technology to examine the complex intersection of several variables he is studying (cultural identity; health disparities; health seeking attitudes/behaviors; indigenous healing practices; scale construction; and cultural, genetic, psychological, and environmental factors contributing to alcohol abuse and its impact on human behavior).  He is the past national President of the Student Circle of the Association of Black Psychologists.  He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Black Psychology. He is the past Student Representative and a past member of the Mentoring Committee of the APA Div 17 Section on Ethnic and Racial Diversity. He is a past recipient of the APA Div 17 Barbara A.
