David Gilbert is Professor of Psychology. Before coming to SIUC in 1985, he received his BS from the University of Washington in 1970 and earned his PhD. from Florida State University in 1978. He completed his internship at Linwood V.A. Hospital in Augusta, GA. The recipient of numerous research grants, including five from the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Gilbert has attained international recognition for ground-breaking research in the study of psychological and biological basis of substance use/abuse (nicotine, antidepressants, alcohol, and caffeine). His research is broad and integrative, including environmental, genetic, and biological factors contributing to individual differences in cognition, affect, motivation, coping, and substance abuse. His laboratory utilizes state-of-the-art technology, including computerized eye-tracking, EEG and ERP brain imaging, and emotional stimulus-presentation systems. He is the author of Smoking: Individual Differences, Psychopathology and Emotion, edited Personality, Social Skills, and Psychopathology and has published over 60 articles in these areas since 1980. |
