Dr. Fischer is a part of the Counseling Psychology graduate program.  Her research focuses primarily on diversity issues, including matters of gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation as they relate to identity processes, mental health, and stress buffers.  Some current projects focus on women's experiences with and perceptions of gender discrimination (e.g., moderators and mediators of the discrimination-distress link; measuring perceptions of discrimination; personal-group discrimination discrepancy), the theory of ambivalent sexism (Glick & Fiske , 1996, 2001), and objectification theory (Fredrickson & Roberts, 1996) as it applies to women from diverse backgrounds.

Dr. Fischer is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Counseling Psychology, The Counseling Psychologist, Psychology of Women Quarterly, and Psychology of Men and Masculinity.  She is an ad hoc reviewer for several other journals (e.g., Psychological Science, Cultural Diversity & Ethnic Minority Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Sex Roles ).  She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses on topics such as research methods, sociocultural diversity, multicultural counseling, counseling skills, ethical and legal issues, psychology of women, intelligence testing, clinical and counseling psychology, cross-cultural psychology, and individual differences.  Please see Dr. Fischer's main webpage at http://mypage.siu.edu/arf12/
