Graduate Student Researcher:
Description: one (1) position
available for a graduate student researcher (GSR). Candidate
must apply and be admitted to the Brain
and Cognitive Sciences graduate
program in the Psychology department at SIUC (for more
information on applying, click
here).
Tasks/Duties: the GSR will be responsible
for (1) collecting and analyzing data, (2) maintaining the laboratory
database, (3) preparing data for publication, (4) supervising and
training new lab members, and (5) developing independent
research
projects
for the masters and doctoral degrees.
Qualifications: a BA degree is required. Undergraduate
training in psychology, engineering, computer science, or biology
is preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with
experience conducting experimental research in psychology or a
related field.
Undergraduate Researcher:
Description: three (3) positions are available
immediately for undergraduate researchers (UR). Positions are
on a volunteer basis for 8-10 hours per week. Course credit is
also available.
Tasks/Duties: the UR will receive in-depth
training in experimental psychology, including (1) experimental
design, (2) data collection and (3) analysis. Daily activities
will include assisting with all aspects of the lab's functioning,
such as recruitment, testing, and literature searches. Supplementary
training is also available for UR's interested in advanced professional
skills (e.g., computer programming, image analysis, neural network
modeling, etc.).
Qualifications: enrollment and good standing
in an undergraduate program at SIUC is required, and a major in
psychology or a related field is preferred. Preference will also
be given to students who are available for two consecutive semesters,
and/or those interested in pursuing an Honors Thesis in psychology.
