First-Year Practicum.  Students begin practicum in the spring semester of their first year in the program, after taking a Fundamentals of Counseling course in fall semester. The first practicum is at the Department's Career Development and Resource Clinic (CDRC), where students will see clients experiencing career concerns, as well as participate in outreach programs at the local high school.

Second-Year Practica.  During the second year in the program, students continue practicum work at the CDRC, and add a practicum at the University Counseling Center, working with clients with a variety of developmental and transition issues.

Specialty Practica.  In the third year, students identify a specialty practicum site, in conjunction with their advisors. This practicum provides a more advanced experience in an area related to the student's post-Ph.D. career objectives.

Advanced Practica.  Students may elect additional practica during the fourth year of the program. These practica may be taken at the Counseling Center, CDRC, or other on-campus or off-campus community sites.

Supervision Experience.  Advanced students gain supervision experience by working with beginning students in Fundamentals of Counseling as part of the required Supervision course (PSYC 561) taken in the fourth year. Additional supervision experience is available by electing work with first-year practicum students in the CDRC in the spring semester, or as part of elective advanced practicum experience in the Counseling Center.

Group Counseling.  Students may obtain group counseling practicum experience through Women's Services or the Counseling Center as part of advanced practica. A number of other service agencies both on- and off-campus provide an opportunity to do some group work
