Meet the Current Applied Students

Alen Avdic entered SIU in the fall of 2007. He received his BA in psychology at University of Missouri-St. Louis. His research interests are in the area of organizational development, organizational behavior, and motivation. Alan's goals for the future include consulting.

Seth Berry is originally from Redmon, Illinois and came to SIUC as an undergraduate. His current research interests include gender and race matters in the workplace, along with a bevy of I/O-related issues. When he is not in the Life Sciences II building, he spends his time with his wife and daughter.

Albert Botchway entered SIUC in the fall of 2009. He received his MA from the University of Bergen in Norway. He is interested in studying health behaviors among young adults. Albert's other interests are program evaluation and community-based health promotion.

Chad Briggs is from Waverly, Iowa where he earned a BA in Psychology from Wartburg College. His research interests include evaluating the efficacy of supermaximum security prisons to curb prison system violence and disruption, and examining the relationship between religious service attendance and health and well-being. Chad hopes to find a position where he can continue researching religion's relationship with a variety of social outcomes.

Gargi Bhattacharya from India joined the Applied Program in SIUC in 2006. Her primary research interest lies in gender issues, focusing on sex discrimination as it relates to policies and procedures in organizations to stop discirmination, and development and implementation of requisite trainings for that purpose. Her secondary research interest involves student-faculty interaction and its impact on student motivation and academic self-concept.

Theresa Castilla earned a B.A. in Psychology from St. Mary's University at San Antonio, TX in December 2006. Her research interests include social psychology and health psychology; specifically, close relationships and their influence on health-promoting behaviors.

Nicole Cundiff obtained a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Psychology from SIUC. She has taught several courses for the Psychology and Management departments, which assist in her future goals of becoming a professor in Management. Her interests are in workforce diversity and leadership.

Virginia Dicken grew up in Indiana and attended Wesleyan College in Georgia. She earned a master's degree in public health at SIUC and is now studying health psychology in the applied program. She also is completing a Women's Studies certificate. Her interests include gender, diversity, feminist/queer methodologies, disability, fat acceptance, and "Health At Every Size."

Margaret DiCocco entered SIU in the Fall of 2004. She comes to us from San Antonio, TX with her BA & MS in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her research interests include the use of aggression in interpersonal communication and predictors of violent behavior.

Jeremiah Edwards entered SIU in the Fall of 2003. He received a B.S. in psychology in December of 2003 from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. Research interests are in the area of violence and impulsivity.

Ingrid Hellstrom entered SIUC in Fall 2008. She received a BA in psychology with a minor in theology and religious studies and an MS in experimental psychology from Georgia Southern University. Her research interests are in the applied social psychology of religion and spirituality.

Nicholas Hoffman comes from Rockford, Illinois. He went to Western Illinois University for his bachelor's degree in computer science and psychology with a minor in mathematics. He is currently interested in studying the psychology of religion and spirituality, focusing on behavioral religiosity.

Jared Klotz entered SIUC in Fall 2009. Jared obtained his BA from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in psychology. His research interests include occupational stress and personnel selection. Other interests include baseball (specifically the Cubs) and hanging out with his dog Addison.

John Lambertus is from Terre Haute, Indiana, where he earned a BS from Indiana State University. He entered the Applied Program at SIU in the Fall 2009. He is interested in studying the effects of being out of the loop. After completing his degree, he plans on becoming a consultant.

Meghan Lowery entered SIU in 2007. She has an MS. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Missouri State University, and a BS in Psychology from Texas State University. Her interests include survey design, psychometric standards in testing and evaluation, and employment law as it relates to fair employment practices, including selection, promotion, and compensation-related decisions.

Steven Middleton entered the Applied Program in the Fall of 2006. He attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney where he received his BS in Psychology with a minor in Biology. His research interests are in interpersonal relationships and attractiveness as they relate to diverse groups of people.

Dustin Nadler, a native of the St. Louis area, entered area entered SIUC in the fall of 2009. He obtained his BS in Psychology from Missouri State University. His research interests include self-determination theory of motivation, applied to student success, academic motivation, and work place settings. More general interests include college sports (University of Illinois), the St. Louis Blues, and most importantly the St. Louis Cardinals.

Joel Nadler came to SIUC originally in 1988. He returned to SIUC in 2003 and graduated with a BA in psychology and entered the Applied Program in 2005. Joel's research interests center on social stereotypes, stereotype threat, and the effects of social situations on evaluation. He plans to enter academia teaching at a research oriented university.

Daniel Nguyen is from Houston. He received his BA in psychology at Baylor University in Waco TX, and an MS in experimental psychology at the University of Texas, San Antonio. Daniel is interested in using quantitative methods with personality traits in solving work-related problems and testing issues.

Alex Ramsey is from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He entered SIUC in the Fall of 2008 after receiving his BS from the University of Evansville in Indiana. His research interests lie mostly within occupational health psychology, particularly how workplace constraints and individual differences contribute to stress and performance outcomes.

Corey Tincher entered SIUC as an undergraduate in the Fall of 2005, receiving his BA in psychology before beginning the Applied program in the Fall of 2008. His research interests include the relationship between teachers and students, as well as the other factors underlying student behavior and performance. Corey is also a toy and action figure enthusiast, spending free time thoroughly evaluating them.

Andrew Wheeler entered SIUC in the Fall of 2003. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in chemical engineering. Andy is studying how emphasis framing influences preferences toward public policies. He is currently teaching introductory psychology and research methods at Eastern Illinois University while continuing to build his consulting firm "OrgaDocs."
