Meet the Current Applied Students!

Alen Avdic entered SIU in the fall of 2007. He received his B.A. in psychology at UM-St. Louis, Missouri. His research interests revolve around nonverbal communication and behavior, leadership, and various areas within social psychology. Alan’s goals for the future entail working as a consultant in the area of I/O psychology.

Chad Briggs is from Waverly, Iowa where he earned a B.A. in Psychology from Wartburg College.  His research interests include evaluating the efficacy of supermaximum security prisons to curb prison system violence and disruption, and examining the relationship between religious service attendance and health and well-being.  Chad hopes to find a position where he can continue researching religion’s relationship with a variety of social outcomes.

Gargi Bhattacharya from India joined the Applied Program in SIUC in the Fall of 2006. Gargi's research interest is in gender issues, creativity and innovation management, and training in workplace.  Gargi loves watching animations and likes spending her leisure time with her mother, sister, and her six-year-old niece, Anushka.

Theresa Castilla is from Menard, TX.  In December 2006, she earned a B.A. in Psychology from St. Mary’s University at San Antonio, TX.  Her research interests include personality and social psychology.  Outside of academia, she enjoys traveling the U.S. with her husband, playing with her miniature dachshund “Scout,” and jogging.

Nicole Cundiff started in Psychology then obtained a Masters in Business Administration before coming back and getting a Masters in Psychology from SIUC. Currently she is immersed into the work of the consulting firm (ARC) in the department and is teaching a 300 level course in organizational behavior, which all assist in her future goals of becoming a professor in Business. Her interest lies in workforce diversity and training.

Virginia Dicken grew up in Indiana and attended Wesleyan College in Georgia. She earned her masters in public health at SIUC and is now studying health psychology in the applied program.  She is also completing a women's studies certificate.  Her interests include gender, diversity, feminist/queer methodologies, disability, fat acceptance, and “Health At Every Size.”

Margaret DiCocco entered SIU in the Fall of 2004.  She comes to us from San Antonio, TX with her BA & MS in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio.  Her research interests include the use of aggression in interpersonal communication and predictors of violent behavior.

Jeremiah Edwards entered SIU in the Fall of 2003. He received a B.S. in psychology in December of 2003 from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. Research interests are in the area of violence and impulsivity.

Alecia Eubanks was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland.  She entered the Applied Psychology program after graduating from Frostburg State University in Western Maryland.  Her interests are in community development, focusing on faith-based programs in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Her career aspirations are to implement health, education, and poverty programs amongst those in need. 

Nicholas Hoffman comes from Rockford, Illinois. He went to Western Illinois University for his bachelors in computer science and psychology with a minor in mathematics.  He is currently interested in studying the psychology of religion and spirituality, focusing on behavioral religiosity.

Meghan Lowery entered SIU in 2007.  She has a M.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Missouri State University, and a B.S. in Psychology from Texas State University.  Her interests include survey design, psychometric standards in testing and evaluation, and employment law as it relates to fair employment practices, including
selection, promotion, and compensation-related decisions.

Susan Marshall entered the SIUC Applied Psychology Program in Fall 2005. Her main interests are research methods, radical behaviorism, and gender. She completed her Master of Arts in Applied Psychology in May 2007 with a thesis concerning gender and fine motor performance. Susan’s goals for the future are to teach at a small liberal arts college or to work with applied social research.

Steven Middleton entered the Applied Program in the Fall of 2006. He attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney where he received his B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Biology. His research interests are in interpersonal relationships and attractiveness as they relate to diverse groups of people.

Joel Nadler came to SIUC originally in 1988. He returned to SIUC in 2003 and graduated with a BA in psychology and entered the Applied Program in 2005. Joel's research interests center on social stereotypes, stereotype threat, and the effects of social situations on evaluation. He plans to enter academia teaching at a research oriented university.

Kristin Pankey entered the SIUC Applied Psychology Program in the Fall of 2006. She attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois where she received her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Management. Her main interests include numerous areas within Industrial Organizational Psychology, including training assessment and gender diversity in the workplace. She plans to work in the area of consulting after finishing her degree.

Philip Seneca entered the graduate program in the Fall of 2003 after completing his BA in Psychology at SIUC. He is very interested in training assessment and program evaluation, workplace motivation, and materialism.

Andrew Wheeler entered SIU in the Fall of 2003. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Chemical engineering.  Andy is studying how different means of communicating influence decision-making in various contexts.  He would like to be an independent consultant after graduating.
